Aquatic Invaders

Aquatic Invaders is a game created by Adirondack Watershed Institute and Lake Champlain Sea Grant Watershed Science Communication Fellow Stephanie Tyski in association with Sean Craver and Thom Craver. Designed to educate players about the real-world consequences of aquatic invasive species, Aquatic Invaders combines entertainment with environmental education. Players will experience the challenges faced by these harmful invaders while gaining insights into the crucial work of the AWI in preserving the unique ecosystems of the Adirondack Park.

Aquatic Invaders is currently not available to play on some Apple devices. The developers are working to fix this.

Behind the Game

The idea behind Aquatic Invaders was to teach people about aquatic invasive species and how they spread in a way that was nontraditional. The developers believed that this could make more of an impact on players if they were the invasive species rather than the Adirondack Watershed Institute trying to stop the spread. The game is based off of real data and information gathered about invasive species in the Adirondack Park. Players gain points and choose how to adapt their species through real characteristics that invasive species show. You can learn more about these characteristics through our blog Building an Invasive Species: What makes them invasive?.
