Grassland Bird Research Talk and Discussion at John Brown Farm State Historic Site

  • John Brown Farm State Historic Site 115 John Brown Rd Lake Placid, NY, 12946 United States (map)

John Brown Farm will host a talk and discussion by Senior Research Scientist Michale Glennon, on grassland conservation and bird research at Heaven Hill and Uihlein Farm. These lands border the historic site, and have a shared history. Northern New York Audubon (NNYA) will cosponsor this event. A short reception will follow the discussion. The talk will take place in the visitor center in the barn at the Historic Site, and is free and open to the public.

Dr. Michale Glennon is a Senior Research Scientist at the Paul Smith’s College Adirondack Watershed Institute. An ecologist who uses wildlife as a tool for understanding threats to ecological integrity and watershed health, she has been working in partnership with the Uihlein Foundation to conduct research and provide management recommendations for grassland birds at Heaven Hill and Uihlein Farm since 2019. She is also a board member for the Adirondack Council and Traditional Arts in Upstate New York.

Michale also leads Wool and Water, a data art project that blends fiber art with scientific data to create visual representations of changing water quality conditions in the Adirondacks and Lake Champlain Basin. This collaborative project uses knitting, crochet, weaving and other fiber arts to illustrate concepts and trends related to our waterways, and to provide inspiration for their protection.
