Invasive Species for Lake Lovers

If you love the lakes and ponds of New York, the “Invasive Species for Lake Lovers” webinar on June 8 is for you. Join the Adirondack Park Invasive Plant Program (APIPP) to learn about ways invasive species can impact the quality of your favorite lake. Invasive species can have negative effects on the environment, the ecology and the economy of NY. We will discuss ways large and small, obvious and obscure that invasive plants and animals impact our lakes. More importantly, we will review simple steps everyone can take to prevent the spread of invasive species and to help scientists collect data. Brian Greene, APIPP’s aquatic invasive species coordinator, will present this virtual talk for all lake lovers in NY and beyond as part of NY’s Invasive Species Awareness Week. The workshop will be followed by an in-person, family-friendly, interactive afternoon at the Lake Flower boat launch in Saranac Lake, NY. See registration details at www.adkinvasives.com.

Following the webinar, the Adirondack Park Invasive Plant Program and the Adirondack Watershed Institute will be hosting an event at the Lake Flower Boat launch 2:00-5:00 and will also be showing Uninvited: The Spread of Invasive Species at 6:30 at Hotel Saranac.
