Wool and Water at The Wild Center

  • The Wild Center 45 Museum Drive Tupper Lake, NY, 12986 United States (map)

Join The Wild Center and AWI’s Science Director for a Wool and Water Presentation on Saturday, August 6th, at 1:00.

Wool and Water is a data art project that blends fiber art with scientific data to create visual representations of changing water quality conditions in the Adirondacks and Lake Champlain Basin. In association with the 50th anniversary of the Clean Water Act, the Paul Smith’s College Adirondack Watershed Institute has embarked on a collaborative fiber arts project supported by the Champlain Valley National Heritage Partnership and the Lake Champlain Basin Program to showcase the legacy of protecting clean water in the Lake Champlain Basin and beyond. The physical collection was created by Michale Glennon, who serves as the Science Director for AWI. She has conducted ecological research in the Adirondack Park for more than two decades and has been knitting for almost four.

This event will align with the recently curated Climate Solutions exhibit at The Wild Center. Climate change is one of the biggest challenges humanity has faced.  Climate Solutions, now open at The Wild Center, asks: What can we do about it?

Encounter locals who are making extraordinary contributions to shift the narrative on climate. You’ll encounter farmers making old ways new again, storytellers who help us understand science through art, builders who ensure function is as elegant as form and environmental experts who are keeping a close eye on the ecosystems that surround us. You’ll also meet those who are ensuring voices often unheard—those of Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC)—are included in these conversations.

Select pieces from Wool and Water will be on display throughout Adirondack Water Week, being held August 5th-14th.
