HAB bag
Harmful Algal Blooms or HABs are a growing problem in waterways everywhere and are an increasing focus of our research efforts at AWI. Our Senior Research Scientist Brendan Wiltse explains everything you need to know about them here. The green felted bag is a representation of the frequency of reported HABs in Adirondack lakes between 2012 and 2020. The fuzzy green dots represent the number of HABs reported in Adirondack lakes for each year beginning with 5 in 2012 at the top the bag and increasing to 15 in 2020 at the bottom. Data came from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s HAB Archive Page. The blue bag is an attempt at depicting the look of some of the most common species AWI has documented in HABs in Adirondack lakes.
